Menara Tun Mustapha

If you are on a day trip to explore Kota Kinabalu or known as KK, while on your way back to the City, perhaps you might want to drop by at Menara Tun Mustapha, where the building is one of its kind in Sabah.

If you love architecture or beautiful views, here is a place I would recommend you to go to. Standing at about 30 storey tall, this building is structured as a 72-sided polygon with walls made of 2,160 special reflective glass panels that can withstand wind speed up to 272 km/h. You can read more about it here.

It is called Menara Tun Mustapha to acknowledge the late Tun Datu Haji Mustapha Bin Datu Harun for his contributions and struggles which has been an inspiration to many with his remarkable and astounding work in establishing Sabah Foundation which plays the catalyst role in education and socioeconomic development of the state till today.

Here’s the exterior view;

You may be able to visit the Museum about the former Chief Minister of Sabah, Tun Mustapha and his vintage car below is displayed and you can take a photo with it. I won’t provide you with more photos as it would be great for you to come by if you’re interested to know more. If you have more time, do get on to the restaurant at 18th floor which will rotate once every hour so that you can get a great view of Likas Harbour.

Otherwise, you can proceed to the back of the building which we did and I love the view from here where you can see Pulau Sepangar, Pulau Gaya and Likas Harbour. That day was pretty cloudy and drizzling on and off. Therefore the photo looks rather gloomy. But standing here breathing in the fresh air with the sea smell is just wonderful.

While on our way out, we took some photos with the Orang Utans before heading out to our last destination.

I hope you’ll visit here someday and enjoy the view from the rotating restaurant. Till then,
